Save Time: Request Patient Authorizations Online

This online tool offers 24-hour access to faster authorizations, member benefit information and network status details for participating and non-participating providers.

Inpatient and outpatient referral and authorization requests may be submitted online via the Availity Web Portal. There is no cost to register.

Submitting and managing requests on the Availity Web Portal:

The Availity Web Portal allows health care professionals to submit referrals and authorization requests to Humana and other participating payers.

  1. If you are not registered for the portal, go to Availity.com to sign up.
  2. On Availity.com, select the “Web Portal Users Login” and sign in with your user ID and password.
  3. From the “Patient Registration” drop-down menu, select the “Authorizations and Referrals” option.

Use the online authorization tool to obtain authorizations for:

  • Intensive Outpatient
  • Partial Hospitalization
  • Inpatient Detox
  • Inpatient Psychiatric
  • Routine Outpatient
  • Electroconvulsive Therapy
  • Psychological and Neuropsychological testing
  • Consults on Medical Floors and in Nursing Homes
  • Certification end date extensions
  • Discharge Reviews/Notifications

The online authorization tool is also available via the Humana Behavioral Health Provider Portal.

Outpatient Authorization
Humana Behavioral Health authorizes up to 20 visits for the initial outpatient mental health treatment, depending on the member’s benefit structure. If further sessions are required, an additional 8-10 sessions can be authorized based on medical necessity and clinical information submitted by the provider.

EAP Sessions
The number of EAP visits depends on the member’s particular contract/plan.
